Dear Robert,
The deadly terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, unleashed fury in the hearts of our country's people.
Young Americans went to war in Afghanistan within months, and DAV members reached out to injured and ill veterans as soon as they started coming home.
It wasn't long before our troops were fighting in Iraq. And in the 13 years since the tragic 9/11 attacks, the number of troops harmed by war has swelled.
More than 1.3 million were added to the rolls of veterans with service-connected disabilities since Vietnam.
This new generation today makes up over one third of all veterans with service-connected conditions. And the response I've seen among DAV members like you leaves me extremely grateful!
The veterans who answered 9/11's call have the rest of their lives to live, and their days will be hampered by challenges brought home from their service in our armed forces.
But they can count on DAV team members like Jacob Drost, who went to war in Iraq himself … then went to work for his fellow veterans after a bout with a service-connected condition of his own.
Jacob is building a career as a DAV National Service Officer, Robert. He's helping veterans like you access all the programs and benefits they need to move on with their lives.
This Iraq War veteran is on fire with DAV's mission, and I'm grateful that you're one of Jacob's comrades in DAV!
