Shadow boxing: a sweeter rehabilitation science

For Navy Petty Officer 2nd Class Charles "Bo" Carolus, day-to-day life after suffering a traumatic brain injury four years ago was only getting worse. Carolus started having a hard time concentrating  and was constantly feeling "stressed out." Worse, he added 20 pounds to his 5 foot 8 inch frame, tipping the scales at almost 200 pounds.

BATDOK uses technology to save lives

Imagine a future battlefield where an Air Force Pararescue-Jumper (PJ) treats seven wounded service members at once. He places sensors on their chests, arms and fingers which immediately feed vital signs to a small wireless computer, no bigger than a cell phone, on his forearm. As he checks out the fifth person, his computer vibrates. He looks at the computer screen: the second person's heart rate is dropping. The PJ moves back to the second person and performs chest compressions, saving that service member's life.

The future is not that far off.
