There may not be many issues on which the Islamic Republic of Iran and the White House agree, but dumping Iraqi Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki in favor of Haider al-Abadi is one of them. MILITARY AFFAIRS
Army Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl's former platoon mates are shopping proposals for a book and movie that are sharply critical of the one-time Afghan prisoner of war, Yahoo News reports. One book proposal depicts Bergdahl as a "premeditated" deserter who "put all of our lives in danger." The account also questions whether he aided the Taliban after he disappeared from his post in Afghanistan in 2009 and was captured by the group.  | The Hill >> The federal sequester kept the much-loved military acts from performing at last year's Chicago Air and Water Show. In the Iowa Senate race, veterans issues have been a central focus in the campaign of Republican Joni Ernst, an active officer in the Iowa National Guard, but less so for Rep. Bruce Braley, her Democratic opponent. Braley is edging onto Ernst's turf, however, with a new television ad released Wednesday. In the ad, Jesse James, whose daughter Holley was murdered by her husband when both served in the military, praises Braley for proposing legislation to support sexual assault and domestic violence claimants in the military. | Washington Examiner >>
Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich, who had championed the need to rethink the bureaucracies that comprise the federal government since the late 1970s, is asking policymakers to take a good hard look at the ability of new technologies to streamline the department and provide, in an efficient and cost-effective manner, the services that America's veterans need. | US News >>
