Subject: Misinformation Will Not Solve VA Access Crisis

In the wake of VA's access-to-care scandal, some Members of Congress have been quoted to suggest VA's problems have no connection to the level of its budget.  DAV (Disabled American Veterans) disagrees strongly with the idea that VA's challenges are unrelated to funding.

As an example of this problem, one Member of Congress recently wrote:  "However, regarding funding for the VA, the VA's budget has significantly increased over the past decade, rising from $52.4 billion in Fiscal Year (FY) 2002 to $134.1 billion in FY 2013.  And while funding has increased 256 percent over the last decade, the number of unique patients has increased by only 30 percent.  Additionally, the VA was the only federal department exempt from sequestration.  I believe the problems at the VA are systemic, and not a result of funding levels."  Other Representatives also are spreading this kind of misinformation about VA funding.

DAV asks that you consider sending your Representative and Senators the letter provided, or write your own letter expressing similar concerns.  If you are contacted by a Member of Congress with misinformation about VA health care funding and this crisis, please respond to that member of Congress as a constituent, expressing your disagreement with these views.

Thank you for being a member of DAV's Commander's Action Network.  Your grassroots activism helps DAV be a more effective advocate for wounded, injured and ill veterans who have sacrificed for their fellow citizens.
